This week in room 10...

NATIONAL MUSIC CENTRE
We started off the week with a super amazing trip to the National Music Centre. We had the chance to learn how music is made up of many patterns and to explore all the different instruments and exhibits at the National Music Centre. One of our favorites was the Kimbel Movie Organ. It was amazing to see how all the pieces worked together to create the musical sound track for old black and white movies. This was extra interesting for us because we are just finishing up the novel Hugo Cabret which is about old black and white movies. Thank you to all the volunteers for joining us!

VIP
Thank you to Spencer for a great job being our VIP this week. The class loved your estimation jar and your super cool egg and bottle experiment! Matthew was chosen as VIP for next week.

Sled Challenge

Room 10 is exploring what makes a good sled. We have decided to try to make our own sleds (mini) out of LEGO. Together we came up with a criteria for what a good sled would entail. We decided that a "good" sled should have a flat bottom or base, it should hold the passenger in, it should be stable, straight and balanced and it should look cool! After the students finished constructing their sleds they documented them in their math journals. We then learned about the feedback process and in small groups we gave each other feed back regarding how our sleds met the criterial that we created earlier. Some of us took this feed back and changed our sleds to better meet the criteria. Today we had the chance to try out our sleds on the small snow hills in our yard. We decided as a class that LEGO is not the best material to use for sleds because it is not smooth enough and the small holes on the bottom stop or slow down our sleds!

Tomorrow is STEM night please join us from 6:00-7:00 for some fun STEM activities.

Friday is PJ and stuffy day for room 10!!!!! We have been working hard to earn this.

Our kindness Gnome has joined our class, ask your child what he is looking for!

LEGO Math!

Today we had a LEGO math challenge. We gave our LEGO pieces points and had to build a structure that added up to 25 points. Most of us built our structure first and some of us gathered our pieces that added up to 25 then created our structure. We then had to document our structure in our math journals.

STEM NIGHT: Please join us for our STEM night this Thursday from 6:00-7:00 pm. Each classroom with be hosting a different STEM activity for you to try out with your child.

Food Bank: We are collecting for the Calgary Food Bank until around the 12th of December.

Welcome to Room 10!

The students of room 10 have had a very busy first couple of weeks of school. We have been working on settling into the rules and routines ...
